ECONOMIC PRINCIPLES IN RESEARCH APPLICATIONS

ECONOMIC PRINCIPLES IN RESEARCH APPLICATIONS

Economic rules and guides, dos and don’ts in your research application.

YOU NEED A PRE-APPROVAL WHEN …

Before you begin the process of writing the project application, a pre-approval from the head of the department, Kjeld Pedersen (kp@mp.aau.dk), is needed if:

  • The grantor requires a high amount of co-finance (>10 percent), or
  • The grantor only offers a low amount of overhead (<10 percent).

Examples of such grantors are:

  • The Danish Business Authority (Erhvervsstyrelsen)
  • Danish private foundations
  • The Danish Industry Foundation (Industriens Fond)
  • Erasmus+
  • INTERREG

The head of the department may agree to go through with the application if the project offers high research output or contributes to the department strategy.

DOES YOUR PROJECT REQUIRE INVESTMENTS IN EQUIPMENT ETC.?

If so, you must comply with the following deadlines:

The MP launch pad on finance in projects and applications

  • We always apply for indirect costs (rent, it, administration) and reassigned time for technical- and administrative staff if the call allows it.
  • We allocate time and resources based on an overall assessment of what is best for the department's finances. E.g. we take required amount of teaching and tuition into account and primarily place reassigned time on junior employees such as phd and post doc.
  • We all use the same rates, tuition fees, salaries etc. provided by the project office (… on its way as we speak – until then ask the project administrator affiliated to your research group).
  • We are meticulous and thorough – we make sure that all appendixes are filled in correctly.

The project administrators will do what they can to help you live up to the rules and guides – don’t hesitate to ask.
